THE DREAM BEGINS...

It was a particular Sunday morning in the year of 1999. The pastor of my church, a visionary leader, casually joked about building a Youth Centre cum Dialysis Centre. That was when my heart leaped with the thought, “Won't it be cool if I could be the person who builds it in the future?”

THE DREAM PURSUED...

Since that day, I began my search into the world of architecture. From a very young age, I was always fascinated by detailed structural models displayed at showrooms. But I knew architecture has more to it. Ironically, of every professional practising architect and architectural student I've met, none has even once encouraged me to pursue this course. Yet a deep-rooted intention was planted in my heart.

THE DREAM ENFOLDS...

Little would I know that the 'joke' my pastor mentioned would soon turn into reality; strategies were planned, the land purchased, structural designs created...all from the year 2001, years before I even finished secondary education. Yet my intention to be involved in this project did not vanished merely by the elimination of being the architect in it. My participation turned not into skills, but financial contribution towards the project.

THE DREAM (PART OF IT) RESULTS...

On the 3rd of November 2004, The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) of Malaysia officially agreed to collaborate in the operation of the Eagles Dialysis Centre (EDC), registered as a company limited by guarantee. Plans of the building were approved by the authorities and a fund-raising activity was organised during the Malaysian Travel Fair at the Mines Convention Centre.

THE DREAM REVIVED...

Sometime in my final year of secondary school, another empty plot of land was purchased, with the intention of another community project in the far future. My dream got its second chance after all. This was when I determined to go through Form 6, as to my knowledge at that time, it was the only possible route to pursue a fully local architecture course.

THE DREAM CONTINUES...

USM became a platform to my future. Indeed I cannot arrogantly say that I will definitely make it through architecture succesfully, but it is my intention to pursue it with the spirit of excellence.
